Inverse Unfold Problem and Its Heuristic Solving
Unfold/fold transformations have been widely studied in various programming paradigms and are used in program transformations, theorem proving, and so on. This paper, by using an example, show that
restoring an one-step unfolding is not easy, i.e., a challenging task, since some rules used by unfolding may be lost. We formalize this problem by regarding one-step program transformation as a relation. Next we discuss some issues on a specific framework, called pure-constructor systems, which constitute a subclass of conditional term rewriting systems. We show that the inverse of T preserves rewrite relations if T preserves rewrite relations and the signature. We propose a heuristic procedure to solve the problem, and show its successful examples. We improve the procedure, and show examples for which the improvement takes effect
Diagnostic sensitivity of motor nerve conduction studies in ulnar neuropathy at the elbow.
Seventy-six patients with ulnar neuropathy at the elbow were divided into 3 classes (Grades I, II, and III) according to their clinical features and the maximal motor nerve conduction velocity (MCV), and the amplitude ratios at the across-elbow segment were retrospectively analyzed. To determine the criteria for abnormality, a control study was conducted on 150 healthy volunteers ranging in age from 20 to 89 years (6 age groups). The normal value for MCV could be set for two age groups: those under 60 and those over 60 years old. The 95% confidence limit was 54m/s for the former and 50m/s for the latter. There was no statistically significant difference in the amplitude ratio among the age groups. The confidence limit was set uniformly at 0.82 (above elbow/below elbow). An abnormality in either MCV or the amplitude ratio was found in 66.7% of Grade I (recent and mild symptoms), 89.7% of Grade II (persistent symptoms), and 100% of Grade III cases (marked intrinsic muscle atrophy). Evaluation using the combination of MCV and the amplitude ratio, considering the age-related normal value, appeared to be useful in establishing a differential diagnosis of ulnar neuropathy at the elbow.</p
Three Japanese patients with congenital pituitary hormone deficiency and ophthalmological anomalies
The clinical phenotype of congenital pituitary hormone deficiency is variable and can be associated with a number of structural abnormalities of the central nervous system. We report three Japanese patients with congenital pituitary hormone deficiency and ophthalmological anomalies. Two of the patients initially showed strabismus and unilateral optic nerve hypoplasia. Thereafter, growth failure became evident, leading to the diagnosis of pituitary hormone deficiency. The other patient had severe congenital hypopituitarism with respiratory distress and hypoglycemia from the first day of life. In addition, he had prolonged jaundice and impaired liver function with bilateral optic nerve hypoplasia. Neuroimaging of the pituitary region in all three patients demonstrated a small anterior pituitary lobe and no pituitary stalk. Our findings indicate that clinical variability of congenital hypopituitarism must be considered. In a patient with ophthalmological symptoms, endocrine evaluation and neuroimaging of the CNS including the pituitary region should be considered
Rotationplasty for patients with osteosarcoma around the knee joint.
The results of rotationplasty for patients with osteosarcoma around the knee joint are presented. After an average observation period of 13.3 months, there has been no local recurrence or metastasis. The ankle joints (the new knee joints) of the patients were able to support their body weight with an average range of motion of 75 degrees. All patients could walk well without crutches and without risk of the giving way phenomenon. The average rate of the functional evaluation according to the re-modified system by Enneking was 84.5% (range, 80.0-86.7%). No patient had psychological trouble in accepting the shortened and rotated extremity. The results show that rotationplasty is a useful reconstructive method for the treatment of osteosarcoma around the knee joint.</p
Coupled spin-charge-phonon fluctuation in the all-in/all-out antiferromagnet Cd2Os2O7
We report on a spin-charge fluctuation in the all-in/all-out pyrochlore magnet Cd2Os2O7, where the spin fluctuation is driven by the conduction of thermally excited electrons/holes and associated fluctuation of Os valence. The fluctuation exhibits an activation energy significantly greater than the spin-charge excitation gap and a peculiar frequency range of 10(6)-10(10) s(-1). These features are attributed to the hopping motion of carriers as small polarons in the insulating phase, where the polaron state is presumably induced by the magnetoelastic coupling via the strong spin-orbit interaction. Such a coupled spin-charge-phonon fluctuation manifests as a part of the metal-insulator transition that is extended over a wide temperature range due to the modest electron correlation comparable with other interactions characteristic for 5d-subshell systems
Effect of Cetraxate, a Mucosal Protective Agent, on Gastric Mucosal Blood Flow and Gastric Clarithromycin Concentration in Nicotine-treated Rats
Our previous study demonstrated that combination treatment with cetraxate plus omeprazole, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin is effective for the eradication of Helicobacter pylon in smokers. To evaluate the effect of cetraxate on gastric mucosal blood flow (GMBF) and the gastric concentration of clarithromycin in nicotine-treated rats, 10 rats were divided into two groups given nicotine with or without cetraxate, and GMBF was measured by laser Doppler blood flowmetry. Another 36 rats were divided into three groups (control, nicotine, and nicotine + cetraxate). Clarithromycin was administered intraduodenally and nicotine was administered after 30 minutes, with cetraxate being given 30 minutes later. The gastric mucosal clarithromycin concentration was measured. After cetraxate administration, GMBF increased significantly in the nicotine + cetraxate group compared with the nicotine group (p<0.05). The mucosal clarithromycin concentration increased in the nicotine + cetraxate group compared with the nicotine group, but the difference was not significant. Our results indicate that cetraxate increased GMBF in nicotine-treated rats
Statistics of 207 Lya Emitters at a Redshift Near 7: Constraints on Reionization and Galaxy Formation Models
We present Lya luminosity function (LF), clustering measurements, and Lya
line profiles based on the largest sample, to date, of 207 Lya emitters (LAEs)
at z=6.6 on the 1-deg^2 sky of Subaru/XMM-Newton Deep Survey (SXDS) field. Our
z=6.6 Lya LF including cosmic variance estimates yields the best-fit Schechter
parameters of phi*=8.5 +3.0/-2.2 x10^(-4) Mpc^(-3) and L*(Lya)=4.4 +/-0.6
x10^42 erg s^(-1) with a fixed alpha=-1.5, and indicates a decrease from z=5.7
at the >~90% confidence level. However, this decrease is not large, only =~30%
in Lya luminosity, which is too small to be identified in the previous studies.
A clustering signal of z=6.6 LAEs is detected for the first time. We obtain the
correlation length of r_0=2-5 h^(-1) Mpc and bias of b=3-6, and find no
significant boost of clustering amplitude by reionization at z=6.6. The average
hosting dark halo mass inferred from clustering is 10^10-10^11 Mo, and duty
cycle of LAE population is roughly ~1% albeit with large uncertainties. The
average of our high-quality Keck/DEIMOS spectra shows an FWHM velocity width of
251 +/-16 km s^(-1). We find no large evolution of Lya line profile from z=5.7
to 6.6, and no anti-correlation between Lya luminosity and line width at z=6.6.
The combination of various reionization models and our observational results
about the LF, clustering, and line profile indicates that there would exist a
small decrease of IGM's Lya transmission owing to reionization, but that the
hydrogen IGM is not highly neutral at z=6.6. Our neutral-hydrogen fraction
constraint implies that the major reionization process took place at z>~7.Comment: 28 pages, 23 figures. Accepted for publication in Ap
